I participated in Race for the Cure yesterday. It was a 3 mile walk. It was always something I wanted to be a part of, and it was very rewarding. But after waking up early, and all the uphill climbing, I think next year will be Sleep in for the Cure for me. Instead of walking, you pay extra to sleep in, and they send you a "sleep in" package instead of a "racing" package - it even comes with booties, I hear.
I was watching Little Dorrit just now, and they went for 3 episodes. I'm a little disappointed - I was hoping for the conclusion instead of the silly little love affairs. One more week.
I got alot done today, and I'm feeling happy about that. That's about all going on here.
I'll be taking a break for a while - I'm still sorting things out, but I am doing fine.

Chilly
It's cold outside today. Two days ago I saw some people in the pool, so I shaved so I could swim the next day, and a cold front came in. Now it's 40 degrees outside and no swimming for Leah.
I did get the package in the mail from Mom. I called her and left her a message a few minutes ago. Moses sat by it, and near my feet while I opened it. I found a plastic bag inside with stuff from Sara - and a peacock feather he used to play with. I held it out, and he jumped up with his paw high to grab it. Somehow, he knew it was in the package and he Wanted that feather. We had a good playtime and he's resting now.
The cherries were good, and Raffy liked his Superman cup. We'll have juice in those! :D We loved everything and it was great to receive a little package.
What color Acer did you get, Rach? I have the silver one. It was the display at Sams club. I didn't want to buy it online, in case it ran out. I like how the keys are not too small. It feels good to type on this, and I am very happy with mine. I am happy for you. Good job getting it together, and keep up the good work!

Random Sewing Tips
Alice, I think it's great your mom is getting you the Project Runway sewing machine! Lucky! :D I hope you have a great time creating fashion. ;)
In response to my costume, I made the smock thing separate because I thought it would be easier. I elaborated on the smock, and make it it's own piece instead of sewing it to the dress. All I did was make the ties longer, and because it was muslin, I made sure to stitch it flat with a nice finish.
I learned to sew through trial and error. My mom made boxer shorts when we were younger. They were comfortable, and wearable, but I kept getting laughed at every time I went to school in them. I wore the same pair of pants that year every day! :D
When you read the instructions inside a pattern, there are alot of terms that they define in the beginning of the instructions, like a glossary. This is the second project I did, and it gets easier the more you sew. But keep in mind when you make something that you may need to lengthen/shorten depending on yourself, not the pattern. The darts on that dress were way to drastic for my tummy. I tried on the piece and asked Raffy to help me determine how much I should dart.
If you do a project, always buy at least 1/2 yard extra cloth, more if it is patterned, so you can match up the pattern on the garment. The internet is excellent for defining how to sew something. I just googled the term, or "sewing 101" and I usually found a ton of useful information.
I also read my sewing manual from back to front before I attempted anything. Even then, I had to refer back to it a couple of times to make sure that I had the right settings and maintenance.
I want to make some cosplay costumes now. Or I may make myself another Disney inspired costume. I was thinking of changing the neckline, lengthening the skirt, and making a Belle or a Cinderella. :D

Wonderful Day
I got to go to the dentist today. My dentist is the BEST! How many times do you get a hug from your dentist? Or they tell you that they always have a great day when you come to their office?
That's right, people. I spread the love everywhere I go! <3 <3
I had a great day at work, and connected with my friends. I went to dinner with Raffy's parents. We were celebrating his dad's b-day. He wanted me to say hello to my family for him, and I had a good time.
My blood pressure was 126 today. The oral hygenist told me that's like a teenager! :D Yay, I have some juice left! :D
I went looking on MySpace for old friends. I found a girl I knew, who I loved so much! She has 3 darling children. We vastly differ in political views, but I was happy to see she has a wonderful life. She deserves it so much. And I was shocked - I thought she was pretty in high school, but now she looks like a supermodel after 3 children! God bless her!
I emailed my old friend Abby. She emailed me in 2004, but I was not able to access my email at the time. I was living in Tempe and my work did not let me access the account. I responded to her, and I said, better late than never! :D I hope she still checks that email, and maybe someday we can reconnect.
Now I have 3 February posts. Good, now I don't have to worry, but I'll probably blog some more if I feel like it.
Life is good.

Fat Tuesday
Today we had King Cake at work. It is a cake that they put a little plastic baby inside of it, and if your piece has the baby, you have good luck for the rest of the year. I got the baby! :D
I saw the Oliver Twist last weekend. I never had a chance to read that book. I asked someone once how it ended, and they said, "I don't know - he gets shot or something and dies." I can tell now they only read half of the book, or cliff notes.
I thought it was a sad ending. I may read the book, though.
I'm getting sleepy now. My days and nights got mixed up while I was on a mini-vacation last weekend. I took Friday off to sew my costume and relax, and see my allergist. I'm doing great - and I have great news -
My blood pressure is now 184. Six months ago it was 223. I've gone down 40 points! Yay!
And I'm still waiting for all the new year's people to clear out of my gym. It's super crowded now, and I have a hard time getting a good workout because you have to wait, and it's crawling with people.
I think I'll go take a nap now. Bye.

Been A Little Busy...
I made this costume this last week. I've been busy working on some projects. I will reveal them as they finish. I tried to rent this Alice costume from a local costume shop, but my bust was too large to fit the dress. I'm too top-heavy! :P
So I went to good old Hobby Lobby and found a pattern for a costume that can make Dorothy, Glenda, a Witch, Alice or the Queen of Hearts - all in one! You just make slight alterations.
I spent about 3 days sewing on and off, and now I have this cute Alice costume. It was alot of fun, and I think I want to invest more time into Cosplay. I think I'll make myself a White Mage outfit like I always wanted to be. Final Fantasy 3 has some cute alterations of the costume.
I've gotten a lot more acquainted with my sewing machine, and I feel silly, but I've been watching alot of Sewing with Nancy on Sundays. Once you know what everything is for, it is easy to come up with a finished garment.
And once I'm done with the costumes, I may sell them. They didn't have any Alice costumes (Disney style) larger than a XL, and I didn't want to wear the 4X Sexy Alice costume to work. :D Yeah, right... :D
Hope all is well out there.

Masterpiece
Esther is my hero. I went to watch Masterpiece last Sunday and it was part 2 of Wuthering Heights. I watched it eagerly - but it quickly turned into disappointment because it is much better to see things in order. I went on my blog, and Esther had a link to watch it online. I was able to not only watch the first part, but to watch both in order.
I can't get it out of my mind. I read this book as my highschool project for my senior English class. I was supposed to read a novel and diagnose it the summer before school started, and give an oral report to the class on the plot of the novel.
I chose Wuthering Heights because I enjoy this genre of literature. I love reading about the English Moors, and I had seen many literary references to this particular story.
I was shocked when I first read the book. Full of sexual motives, sexual desire, sexual hate. I didn't know how I would survive an oral report to the class because it was so dark, deep, hateful beyond hate to the point of being where the fringes of humanity lies in tatters on the human psyche.
Luckily, the whole class was hung up over the naming scheme of the characters so I did not have to recount in much detail the horror that was Heathcliff and his transformation to a walking demon among men.
This presentation was very good. Very true to the book and to my mind's interpretation of the characters. I watched the little 'behind the scenes' to learn that they actually filmed this on the Moors. I thought that was so authentic - most movie presentations set in the English Moors are done in some kind of forest. I had never seen such a rugged windswept landscape. Now I truly understand the author's landscape - her mind, and the loneliness of the land that drove the motives of the story.
I have to admit - I liked the guy who played Heathcliff the best. His performance was crucial to the delivery of the project, and every scene he was so devoted to the role. And Cathy was not bad either - I finally understood that character when I saw her. I could finally understand the problems that nagged in my mind regarding how they truly felt about each other. The way I was reading the text suggested alot of passionate speech, and too contradictory - they seemed more like flip floppers than focused on their emotions.
Watching these two interact really showed a complicated relationship, but it was easier to understand hearing them speak to each other than to read it.
I'm trying to say that my life experiences have changed, and so has my point of view of this story. It makes me want to reread some more classics and try not to judge as harshly as I did when I was young - before I encountered my own life.

Laptop
I got a new laptop today! I'm blogging on it right now - it's an Acer mini laptop with a 9" screen. Silver. Very, very cute and has everything I wanted in a laptop. Windows XP, decent processor, and it even came with a webcam and microphone built in. It was very cheap at Sams club - $345. They only have them left online - I bought the display model.
I am so damn happy.
I am sending Mom's birthday present in the mail, and I also am sending the Eureka 7 anime for Rach to watch. Hope they like it!
I'm going to start a website to sell my jewlery online. That way it can be anonymous, and I can sell whatever I make. I have some pretty nice stuff, and I want the hobby to pay for itself, and who knows? If it gets popular enough, then I can have a small business on the side.
This laptop will be perfect to keep up with it. I think I'll have an easier time blogging now too. I've already had over 100 posts, and even though I did not keep it up every 2 weeks, it's been almost 2 years, and I'm still here! I think I can handle the site, and I even have an Xd card slot on the laptop - meaning that I can plug my memory card from my camera into the laptop and export pictures of the jewelry.

I Need to Blog
I had a very nice Christmas. I relaxed with Raffy in the morning, then we went to his grandma's house, had food and tamales and visited the family. It was nice to see everyone so happy and grown up, and I had a great time. Then we came home and I called my family and chatted.
We don't do presents anymore. We don't have money, and I would rather eat good food, and enjoy good times with my family than waste money on things that I don't need right now. We watched Eureka 7, it was a very good anime. Raffy looked at the cast when we saw the final episode, and they had people from so many other great anime series. I think it's my favorite now, or at least really high up there.
I'm trying to finish the Inuyasha series that I had to stop earlier on. I watched 2 disks, and I have about 5 to go. It's funny because Raffy watched the English version on Adult swim, and he was shocked that it was the same episodes so close to the end of the series. I wouldn't know - I hate the English bastardization of my first anime. They cut about 30 episodes, and changed things around. I love how they swear all the time. It makes me laugh!
New years was much the same. We visited Raffy's uncle - he has a home he rennovated. He has a girlfriend now and they both seem very happy. She's very nice and I am very happy for both of them - he is a very good person. As soon as we arrived he swept us into the kitchen and served us personally a huge meal! I already ate dinner, and I was trying to eat everything, but I could not. We laughed and talked, and we got home safely before 12:00 pm and rang in the new year with Moses! :)
Last week I went shopping at Macy's for a new skirt - but they dont' have any in stock right now. I tried on a dress - size 16, and it *almost* fit me. I am very happy about that - I could not squeeze into an 18 before my workout revolution last June. I'm going to keep it up and go back later (I have some gift cards to Macy's!).
But I wanted the skirt for my family picture with Moses. So Raffy and I went to Hancock fabrics, and they had a sale on everything. I made a skirt last week. It's beautiful! That's why I haven't blogged lately - very busy. :)
Happy New Year - I know times are rough, but let's work hard to make 2009 the BEST!
