I made some HOT chili yesterday. I couldn't find the chipotle peppers I used last time, so I bought some from the store, not knowing their fire. It's good, but it's kinda like Punishment Chili. I like it!
I took Raffy to see Twilight before it was out of theaters. He liked the movie some, but said it was drawn out. He seemed more interested in Jake than Edward. I felt the same way. It's like in Boys Over Flowers - how Rui was supposed to be the star, but Tsukasa stole the show. Edward is Rui, and Jake is Tsukasa. We both can't wait to see the new movie next year, with a different director.
I think the storyline definately calls for a new director.
I am working on my filthy room. As you see below, it is still quite unpacked. Right now I'm resting with Raffy and Moses. We're watching Eureka 7. First episode - but pretty good so far.
Later!

Pictures!
I don't know the first thing about Rock Band. When it comes to games, I will play them when they are no longer popular so they cost much less. I don't mind being behind the times, I never have to pay to be "in."
You used to sing so much Rach. I think you were probably preparing yourself for expert level, even though you didn't know it! :D I still wanted to kick you in the head! :D j/k
Pictures of new place:

Raffy is just feeding Moses - it was his dinner time. I painted the wall, it looks pretty good, once I get pictures up it will be better. This place is huge!

The kitchen is very big, and I was able to put out more appliances and have much more workspace to cook. This is my biggest blessing and saves the most money. It is very difficult to try to eat everyday out of a tiny kitchen like the ones I used to have. If you have the money when you move out, look for a place with a spacious kitchen and you can't go wrong.
This picture above is the Moses station. It's really a built in desk in the Kitchen next to the pantry. I put his litterbox underneath and it works out great!

I love showering in that garden tub. This bathroom feels cleaner - must be the white. I had to laugh, when Raffy and I were cleaning on Thanksgiving, we saw the nozzle on the ceiling in the picture below. We looked at each other, and said, "Is that a camera?" A few minutes later we found a piece of metal in the tub. "Camera piece." Raffy said. :D I laughed so hard.
But if it really IS a camera, I hope they get a good show because I don't care! :D
I love my new place! <3

Settling In
Hi! I'm back. It's been a long 2 weeks, but we're almost fully unpacked. I have made a pact with myself - I'm going to upload pictures on Sunday, regardless if we are finished or not.
Last weekend, we shopped for food and supplies, and cooked and cleaned all weekend. Raffy and I put away about 4 boxes, but there are a few to go still, and some minor adjustments and pictures to put up. Since we are fully stocked in the food department, I was just going to stay here all weekend, and nest.
I think what also took some time was figuring out the bank thing last Saturday. Then we ended up in the longer lines in the middle of the day. Hey - Raffy and I don't mind, as long as the bills get paid and everything is rolling! We went to Sam's and loaded up on meat, and I already had so many side dishes at home, that we are set for quite a while. We're eating at home now, and I've been bringing my lunch every day. We're going to be just fine!
We got Guitar Hero 3 and a wireless guitar controller. I got to cover it in stickers, and it's BADASS if I do say so, myself. I'm going to post a picture of that too, when the time comes. I am actually better at the game then I thought I would be, and it has alot of my favorite songs that I loved (Welcome to the Jungle) and the Lost Songs that I never got to hear when they were still new because I'm stuck in Countryville. I so happy...
Keep it real and I'll be back with pictures!

We Made It!
Today they setup my internets! Yay!
We made our move - and I am soooo happy. :) This place is so nice it almost feels like I am staying at a hotel. Especially the shower - just like bathing in a waterfall. I'm happy because this place fits all 3 of us very well.
I took today and tomorrow off to unpack, and I'm about half done. When I finish, I'm going to post some awesome pics.
Moses was scared at first because the movers piled everything in the living room, and there was only a little strip for him to walk up and down. But after a couple days, and once we put out his food carpet, he's really enjoying all the nooks and crannies this place has for him. They have crown molding on the windows, and he fits nicely on the sill. I took him out on the patio, and he didn't want to leave!
We're doing great and I will catch up later.

Heard the News!

Congratulations Matt & Alice. Raffy and I hope you have many happy years together!
If this was on any other weekend I would have flown down to be there. But we will be moving into our new apartment. The best thing I can give is to tell you that now you will be one. There will be no more thinking of yourselves as separate individuals. It is a beautiful thing, and although your lives as single people is over, you will come into a new being as husband and wife. I wish you both many blessings and I wanted to give you this tribute!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I saw Twilight last Friday with my gal pals. We went out to the Drafthouse, I had a burger and drooled over the cast. The only casting problem I had was Esme - she does not seem quite right for the part. I don't like her - but the rest of the characters were spot 0n. Jacob was cute - knowing he was shark boy only made it cuter. I really liked it, and I want to take Raffy to see it because we were making comments all through the movie, so I didn't get to see it undisturbed. And I want to know what Raffy thinks about it too!
I took a break from packing to give a little tribute to Mr. & Mrs. Matt. I don't know his last name, but we keep that off of here anyway! :D
You should Rent
The best thing to do is just try to rent, or share with friends. And if you cannot afford anything for a couple years, it's okay, because you will make money someday. Raffy was sad at first - he was a huge collector before we got married. But now, he doesn't miss it because when he graduates, he wants to buy entire series at a time instead of one release after another. And I support that. Maybe we can send a package of manga or anime for you to watch. I will make a list of what we have, and you let us know.
Chrono Crusade belongs to a friend of Raffy, unfortunatly, and Fullmetal Alchemist was something we rented. Those were great! We're just waiting for next year. I would like those series, I could watch them over and over.
I need to finish the Inuyasha DVDs. I had a hard time going back to them because it was the same thing over and over again. It's been enough time, and I remember that you didn't get to finish them either. I will definately send those when I have a chance to watch them.
Two weeks. I can't wait. I'm anxious to leave this place and be closer to everything. It's going to be like when I lived in Tempe. I was very happy with the location there, and this is even better. Don't worry - I'll be updating everyone with my new address.
November Update
The packing is almost done. We're moving in 2 weeks. I don't know if I will have time to blog, but I will think of you guys while we're settling the new place.
Raffy twisted his ankle yesterday. I've been taking care of him. :) He's had to crutch his way around school today and he is very tired. I remember when I busted my ankle several times. It's hard, but he should be better by Monday.
We are going to hire movers to take our stuff. We don't have much, and we don't want to hurt ourselves with the move. Plus we have to clean both apartments. I don't want to worry, and Raffy's friends are all busy due to the holiday. I'd rather have professionals anyway - I know they have the equipment to do it quick and easy.
One of Raffy's college friends lent us Chrono Crusade. It was very good. It kinda reminded me of a mix between Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist. At first I wasn't sure about it, but it had a very good storyline, and even tied historical events to the characters and the situations they are in. It's a religious type anime, and has alot to do with Heaven and Hell in the Catholic church, but with the eastern philosophies of balance and cycles of time. It was still cool - even though they had a different perspective of western religion. Sometimes a new perspective is interesting, and it's fantasy anyway.
I highly reccomend it!
So now, I'm watching Kitchen Nightmares. I love that show. Mexican restaurant from hell... reminds me of a place I used to live near in Tempe.
OMG I got DS!
Woo-Hoo! I got a DS!
I've been playing all weekend. So I didn't post a blog. :D S'okay, I was having fun rehabilitating dogs and training people.
That's right. I bought the Caesar Milan Dog Whisperer game for the DS. I've been walking dogs, feeing them, and helping them work through their doggy issues. It's fun! I'm a huge fan of that show!
I got the pink one! And I bought a little purse to put it in.
This weekend we signed our contract for our new apartment. It's not the one I put in the pictures, it's a better one. Brand new, with a better floorplan for our needs. We're that much closer to our new home. I'm happy.
In response to the Yoga balls, they are actually easy to use. You can sit on them like a chair, and work out. The fact that you are on the ball activates your core so you have extra resistance. I highly recommend you get one while you are out of the gym to keep in shape. One way of getting a small cardio exercise is bouncing on the ball while seated. It will get your heart rate up, then you can use it to do situps or crunches on it. They only cost about $10 or so.
You can do alot of different things with it that do not involve using your feet. You can sit on it and do hand weight exercises and focus on strength training. Or you can lay on your back and transfer the ball from your feet to your hands, extend the ball over your head, and back to your feet. That one really gets the body involved.
:) Shark boy, eh? I bet he's used to transforming into an animal, so they made him the werewolf. Ha ha ha. I can't wait to see that.
Ha ha ha. I like this one.
It was pretty uneventful this week. I can definitely feel a big change in my muscles since I've started working out. I feel wonderful, and my attitude has really changed.
I went online and I was looking at some Gold's gear. They had some pretty good stuff. I bought some headbands, so I look hardcore when I work out. :D J/K, I kept getting sweat in my eyes.
At my gym, there's a little room, and in that room is a bunch of jump ropes, yoga balls, pads and medicine balls. And a chair, and a chart with the skinless human showing muscle groups, too. And a filing cabinet... It's just so uninviting. Like if I go in there, I would get shooed out. It's confusing, to have that equipment, with the door cracked, and the light on. No one goes in, and no one comes out.
So I bought my own jump rope. :P They can't stop me. That is the only thing I don't like about my gym.
We put in our notice for our apartment. All I have to do is pay the last month's rent, and that's it. Some screaming children moved into the nearby units. Every night when the sun goes down, they come out to wail and run around the lack of yard behind our apartment. One month left.
I watched the Twighlight trailer. I had to laugh at the whole "candle" thing. Watch it and see. It's like they had to add some kind of romantic aspect to the vampires. They read parchment with candles. Ha ha ha. Love it.
The main characters look pretty good. It's going to be interesting, and I'm going with the friend who lent me the book to the Drafthouse. We're going to down Sangrias and pizza, and watch the movie. I love the Drafthouse!
I'll bring you, Rach or Alice, if you ever come down again. Do they have them in Atlanta? I expect they'll go national someday. It's so cool, and fun!
Have a great week and I'll check back next! Ciao!
Read the Twighlight Series
I had the day off today! Hooray! This last week, a friend at work lent me the Twighlight series by Stephanie Meyer. I remember the pictures on the books from when Rachel read them when they were new.
I really liked the first 3 books, but I was not a fan of the last book. I wanted it to go in a completely different direction, and the last half of the book was completely boring to me. I couldn't connect with it anymore, and I thought the author's way of tying up loose ends was not the way I hoped it would end. I spent the first half of today getting through it, and I'm glad it's over.
My friend is taking me to the movies later this month and we're going to see the movie. I can't wait to, and I'm glad she was so kind to let me borrow some entertainment. It was fun reading the first 3 1/2 books, so I'm glad it happened.
By the way - the chili was AWESOME! I enjoyed it so much, I want to make more later, maybe after we move. Raffy came home and we went shopping together, and I made dinner. :) This is why I don't have much to post about sometimes. Life is pretty mundane and takes up alot of time.
Candy time! :) Time to go raid the halloween candy...
Chili Time!
Yup. Economic crisis - here it is. Unfortunately we can't just go into the Recession, and they passed that damn bailout bill. We need it, but it will be on delay. We're going to be just like Japan - prop up the diseased old banks and don't let them fail. Next thing, people will do more saving than spending and we'll have quite a rollercoaster ride over the next decade or so.
I saw the Ass on Rachel's blog. How cute! Stupid Ass! :) I also noticed that the yard work has slipped up. Man, that palo verde tree in the front yard is HUGE. They should chop it down since the branches aren't going to be maintained. I cut them about 6 or 7 years ago so you could ride under it with the lawn mower. I can tell it hasn't been done since.
I bet the neighbors are eyeing all that grass, and saying, "Why not? The Asses won't go anywhere and maybe the neighbors will mow their lawn! :) I wish I could do that, rake up some grass and throw it over the fence to them. I love Asses!
I'm glad Alice had time to update her blog! I love the pictures of the picnic. Raffy and I thought Matt and the Fire was so cool. I hope you make a ton of new friends! I can't believe you pay that much for gas though - $4.19. The highest we've had here was $3.95, but it's about $3.40ish this week. The price of oil is not high enough to warrant that, but you know they will only charge us more. Dumb Asses!
Don't worry about the monies, Rach. You need to focus on getting a good paying job, and you'll be able to give back. The economy is not healthy right now, and it will be a while until it gets better. What is the worst that could happen? You will still have food to eat and a place to live. Because wherever you go, there you are. :D
I made a huge pot of chili today - my own recipe. Delicious! I have to go check on my cornbread now. I'll check back in later!
Hurricane the Size of Texas
Yeah, everyone here was worried that the hurricane would be a direct hit, but it ended up turning north and hitting Houston instead. Unfortunately, they should have been as paranoid as San Antonio. There is some search and rescue missions underway to save some people who never thought that it could happen to them.
I wasn't worried, but I must say that I need to get renter's insurance. It's so cheap, and now I actually have things to worry about. That's my top priority this week, once I get a chance.
I've gone back to gaming. Raffy and I packed up alot of things, and we're still waiting to hear back from the new apartments if we were approved. I sure hope so, we don't want to stay here, and I can't think of a better place I'd like to be.
I'm playing Alundra on playstation. It's a total ripoff of Zelda, and I love it. There's alot of puzzles to solve, like Legend of Gaia, and it has a similar setup. I am going to finish as many games as I can in between now and the move.
My body is really changing. I still haven't lost weight, but I look much better. It will come - I've discovered that stress really does impact my weight. I stopped listening to election coverage. What will be will be. I'm going to vote, and that's it. I've also been sleeping earlier, and I notice that I can relax more.
I feel like going back to play more now. I took a break to do my post. I know how special that must make my readers feel. :D
What What in the .. nevermind
I do like the new apartment. I did some more packing (I'm running out of things to pack!).
Last week I was talking about the upcoming election with some friends at lunch. I decided that I'm tired of the media - hanging on their every word to figure out which candidate I feel is a better choice. So I went to both websites - McCain and Obama, and I read through all the issues. I analyzed everything, and made my choice.
I highly recommend if anyone is going to vote to go to both sites, read about the issues that concern you and decide. With all this "starpower" in the media, it's hard to determine how a candidate thinks when all they want to do is dissect your family and make up rumors about your past that aren't true.
In the end, I have to go with Obama. If he accomplishes 1/3 of all the goals he has set for president, I think our country will be far better for it. I was paying attention to McCain in the Primaries, and when I went to his site, he stole good ideas from Obama and made them his own. Every sentance starts with "John McCain..." and it's mostly fluff. Obama's views were clear, outlining the problems, and addressing them with a solution.
In my own opinion, McCain is making emotional appeals to the voters, along with a VP candidate who is trying to rock the "star power" aspect, and who only has extreme right wing views and claims to be a maverick. I think they need to look up the definition of that word - for neither of them are mavericks to me.
Everyone needs to use their own judgement to choose, but mine is purely on the issues and new ideas for our country. I'm going to do the early voting. And I'm sharing this with my friends, to let them know how I think, and hopefully they feel the same and go to the polls too.
I'm going to go play Alundra now. I started that game, it's alot like Zelda. I'm having fun with it!
Wow - I didn't realize it had become that many days since I posted.
Benihana was pretty fun. Raffy and I sat with a group of 6 who knew each other - a mom and dad with their grown son with girlfriend, and daughter with husband - the husband who was an incredible ass. They had a baby with them, but it was tucked away behind the table somewhere sleeping.
Our chef had a really high pitched voice - I had a hard time understanding him, but he did most of the little cooking tricks. He loved picking on Raffy! Raffy got shrimped several times with shrimp tails.
But the whole time the Ass kept trying to impress everyone with his knowledge of "what was to come" and was really spoiling the effect of just letting the chef perform. "Oh - here comes the train!!! -- and -- Eh, it's an okay volcano.... Ha ha ha - now YOURE the one he's going to pick on..." This went on and on and on. I just ignored him, and I could tell the family was trying to as well. I kept looking at his poor wife thinking, You married That. Ha ha ha.
I got a free bowl of strawberry ice cream, and Raffy and I shared our meals - chicken and fillet mignon. It was delicious and we will definitely go back!
So I had a good week off. I went with my friend and got my nails done at this upscale mall - which I will live much closer to in the next couple months. Last week I went to the gym, and I got sick on Thursday - a virus that's been going around.
This weekend Raffy and I accomplished so much! We went to Mesa Ridge and got our application in, then we threw out our broken couch, rearranged the apartment, cleaned and packed a good majority of our things. We know exactly what we need to do, how long it will take, and we're pacing ourselves. Raffy just started a new semester of school, and he's ready to push through the last semesters.
I promised some pictures of our new place. This is exactly the model Raffy and I viewed when we went to the apartments a couple months ago. They all have hardwood floors now:
Yay - Hooray!!
Happy Birthday to me! :D(I had to wait a whole year to post this. I had it ready to go, and I dropped the ball last year. It's okay, though. This pic never loses it's edge!)
I got 2 pairs of new glasses today! I've been all over the place this week, organizing my life. I've been to the doctor, packing, organizing. I found a whole BUNCH of mold in my closet next to my air conditioning unit. It's this humid weather, you can never quite get the moisture out of the nooks. It's been one thing after another.
So tomorrow I am doing what I please. :D I got a new purse for my birthday. It's a Nine West red purse, pretty and plain. Then I added some beaded chain to dress it up. It's so cute!
I'm going to make a matching pair of earrings and a necklace.
Moses doesn't like us taking pictures anymore. When I started taking pictures of the purse, he got jealous and wanted me to take his picture with the purse. Silly cat!Tomorrow night (on the 15th) Raffy and I are going to Benihana for a full spread. I can't wait!
Time for a Post
Hey Rach. I read your comment and yes, it is definitely easier to buy the premade links! Even better, I don't need to weld them. I can just use the pliers to close them shut, and it's done. Raffy told me he saw a cold welder I could use if I wanted that people use on computer parts. The tip only heats up when it comes in contact with metal. I may go that route when I get better materials to work with.
Right now I'm using Nickel plated things for practice. Raffy helped me put together a spreadsheet as a pricing guide, so I can accurately price my things. The most expensive thing I made was a necklace for $3.48, so I'm going to charge $7.00 for it. I just want my hobby to pay for itself, I don't want a huge markup, unless it's like sterling silver or gold.
I think that eBay is a good place to go, and I looked up the indoor swap meet here- it's $10 to rent a table for Saturday. When it gets closer to the holidays, I'll look into that, but I really don't know how much people go to swap meets here. I'll go to check it out before I spend any money on that, because eBay is free, as far as I know...
I thought of you today Rach, because I was using the eliptical machine for the first time today. I went about 10 minutes, and my heart rate was like 170, so I finished the last 20 minutes on the treadmill. I'm glad that I'm getting better at working out, and someday I'll be able to go longer!
Yay Leah!!!
I'm taking my birthday week off. One week to work, then I'm taking the 11th - 15th off. For me. For Games! For packing! For whatever I want to do! That is my present to me.
I feel like beading now. I'll post again next week. Take care!
What a Week!
Wow. July went by quickly. I've had quite a week.
I started crafting chain jewelry. I had a necklace I purchased 2 years ago when I was working at the mall, and I didn't like it. It was one of those shell necklaces in an upside-down triangle. My neck is very thick, and it looked more like a cravat around my neck than a dainty necklace.
I went to Hobby Lobby and got some jewelry pliers, and I turned it into a bracelet. It's better, and I'll probably wear it more often now.
But when I was done, I was unsatisfied. I went back and I bought more supplies, and I started making chain mail again. It's been a long time, but I missed it. I always wanted to make jewelry, and I've made a couple of nice pieces so far.
Once my collection is completed I'll post some pictures. But my hands are weary from chaining today, and it hurts to type.
Update
Yeah, I'm getting lazy on the titles. So? :D
Thank you for the shout out for Raffy's B-day Alice. That made him very happy! We had a great week last week.
We went on a huge shopping spree last Saturday. Raffy did a great job at work saving a huge project, that his company gave him $250 in gift cards. We got to pick. Raffy gave me $100 at Zales, we chose $50 at Benihana, $25 to AMC theaters, and the rest at Borders.
We went to Borders and I bought a bunch of cool things in a clearance sale. I got the Narnia series for 50% off, a couple cool interactive books for $3 each, a Velveteen Rabbit storybook with a plush Rabbit (looks just like in the book!), and we bought the Barbeque U guy's Indoor Grilling recipe book for $8.
We still have about $50 for Raffy to buy manga, but he wanted to do it online so he could finish some of his neglected series.
Then we went to Zales, and they were having a clearance sale too! 50% off then 30%, and 60% then 30%. I got three things: I got a couple of latch-back earrings. One is a princess cut sapphire with diamond accent, and the other is a solitare emerald cut white topaz. I also purchased a set of white sapphire earrings and necklace with the journey style - Lemme get a picure:
This set I got in Sapphire, and it was white gold for the metal.
This is white sapphire, and I got matching earrings. They're only about the size of my thumbnail, but I like the look.
This I got in white topaz (slightly bluish, but white) and minus the diamond accents, they look like this picture.
I came home, and when I looked through all my jewelry I noticed that I never wear most of it and I have some really nice things. I decided to go for it. Why wait for a special occasion? They never come up and I always forget about it. So I cleaned everything, and I vowed to wear a different pair every day.
I want to buy a peridot and an emerald set, and I'll be done. I already have ruby earrings, and I don't want diamond. Not after I learned how the diamond trade works. Even though alot of dealers promise that their diamonds are not blood diamonds, they cannot guaranty 100%. That's enough for me to go with something else as a consumer.
Anyhow, I'm going to go read me some Narnia. Later.
Saddie needs to Get Checked!
Saddie should really get checked for diabetes. One of the signs is weight loss, and especially if the cat is eating more.
I have to say, though, that if you do require to give her insulin shots, she is going to need more attention and care than a normal cat. They can probably put her on the DM food, but she may need to be hospitalized too.
Or it could be something else, you never know.
It's been quite an adjustment to wake up in the middle of the night to feed Moses. I'm getting better at giving his shots, but he still gives me the "eye" when I have a needle in one hand and a cotton ball in the other. Raffy and I are dedicated, though. We love Moses as a part of our family and we take good care of him. He's been responding from the shots.
I haven't seen him pull out fur lately, and he's been more alert. He has a follow up on Thursday to measure his blood sugar curve to see the effects of the food and the insulin. We may not need to give him more shots, or they will adjust his dosage. He's been such a trooper!
Tomorrow is Raffy's birthday. We've been celebrating all weekend - we went to our favorite Greek restaurant, and I made him a cake and bought him some new DS games. I got him a copy of Myst!! He was happy because the game we had for the PC did not work on XP.
I'm halfway through my training sessions with the gym. I'm looking forward to working out on my own now. Sometimes, the workouts are too intense, and I am very out of shape. I have not lost any weight yet, and I don't want to build muscle yet, until I can loose about 50 lbs. I think the best thing to do would be a heavy cardio routine, with light strength training for now, mostly focusing on the legs and lower back. Then I can seek out a trainer if I want to build sexy muscles, or if I want to look normal, then keep to myself.
I realize that building muscle burns fat, but you lose muscle before fat if you become sedentary again. I'd rather burn alot of fat right now, especially since I'm 43% fat. I don't want to look like Helga on Gladiators.
I did gain some knowledge and tips from the sessions, so that is good. It wasn't a total loss. But I don't want to continue at this pace, because it's not in line with my fitness goals.
Raffy and I are doing great! See you all later.
Moses, and his Diabetes
Hi Rach. Your target heart rate should be 50-85% of a basic formula - 220 beats per minute minus your age (that's the 100%). You're 23, so that would be 197 bpm as your HIGHEST that your heart should be working. I would say, because you are fit, you would fall closer to the 85% range, so that would be 146 - 166 bpm.
If your heart is working too hard, you will not benefit from the workout as much and you could go into cardiac arrest. Please see a doctor about that heart rate, if your heart is working too hard. It could be because of your allergy problem, your lungs are working harder, and your heart because your autoimmune system is working against the environment. Are you on any allergy medications? I've been taking generic Zyrtec from Walgreens, and I have not felt this good in a long time!
So Moses has Diabetes. We found out because he was pulling out his fur for the last couple of weeks. He would bite the fir on his legs, and pull it out in a big mess. I never saw that before, so we looked it up on the internet. It could be fleas, mites, mange, etc. So we gave him a couple of flea baths - with no results. (another reason I was not posting recently. Kinda hard when I had to wash him at night and make sure he dried before I went to bed)
So Raffy took Mr. Moses to the vet last Thursday. The vet gave him a blood test to check for Mange, but it came back negative. However, his blood sugars were way off, and they wanted us to bring him back for Diabetes screening with a fasting test. The vet said the fur pulling was behavioral, and we were concerned because Feline Diabetes sounds so complicated.
He was constantly begging for food and treats, waking us up at night to be fed, and dissatisfied with everything we gave him not being enough food. Plus the fur pulling made me think that he could be diabetic.
Yesterday Raffy brought him back to the doctor, and Moses was starving because we fed him up to 8:00 the night before. Raffy said a big dog came out of the back and attacked his crate. Moses was very agitated from that encounter, and when they went to get his urine to test, they had to extract it with a needle because he was in such a bad mood he wouldn't let the vet near him.
They called us immediately and we began the testing. They shaved his little paw, and hooked him up to a catheter and an I.V. to measure his blood sugar curve. This gave them the information to find his insulin dosage to give him, and when Raffy picked him up yesterday, they gave Raffy a crash course in giving Moses his insulin shots.
So we have new medicated food for Moses, and the shots were not that expensive. The initial testing, hospitalization, and food and supply costs came to $250.00, but on a monthly basis, we're looking closer to $35 to $40 per month for his insulin.
The good news is that he may be just fine with the new food and may not require insulin. The vet said he was more hypoglycemic than diabetic at this point. Moses is in heaven, because we can no longer portion his food. It's a kitty free for all over here, and because his sugar levels are regulated, he will not eat too much anymore, or just out of boredom.
I leave you with a picture of the Kitty. He was kinda grumpy. I'm going to go brush him now!
I Joined a Gym!
I joined Gold's Gym yesterday. I went and I met with a trainer, and did a 15 minute exercise routine with him. I paid everything up front, so I have a whole year of membership, and 11 training sessions with the guy.
It was expensive for the training, but I got a discounted price for buying them in bulk. When I come up for renewal it's going to be $55 per session. Eh, they have to make a living somehow.
I'm going to stick with it for a couple months and see how it goes. I may not need him after that, or I can take a break and come back to it. It's really nice having someone to show you how to use the machines effectively and to learn some good exercises.
I told him about my bad lower back, and how I pulled it picking up Moses 10 years ago. He had me doing squats against a yoga ball on a wall, and it really worked those muscles around my spine! I had a REALLY hard time going up and down my stairs today to go shopping, but I know the pain will go away in a couple weeks.
Today I bought some workout clothing, and I went in for a 30 minute walk on a treadmill. I like the machines they have, there are silver handles that if you grip them, they tell you your current heart rate. I thought I would have to do a brisk walk, but according to my trainer, I was supposed to keep my heart rate between 117 and 137. I ended up walking at 1.6 miles per hour. I was surprised that it was very slow, I normally walk faster than that, but he knows his job.
The most surprising thing was when he measured my body fat! It was a little machine, you grip it, and hold it face level. The machine said I had 43% body fat! I was wowed, it's like being half fat!
No wonder I felt so doughy! That makes me happy because the fatter you are when you start, the faster it melts off. It feels more like progress than when skinnier people work out and try to lose 5 lbs. I'm going to lose about 1/4 or so off my ass. That's not bad!
I'll keep you posted!
Half-Assed Post
Sans-Bitch? Life is good! It took a couple weeks, but now everything is good.
I've been very tired lately. This Saturday I'm going to a gym to see about signing up, and I'm going on Sunday with my good friend for a massage and spa day. She really wanted to treat me, and I am excited to go with her! It's going to be fun.
Well, a half-assed post is not half-assed unless I stop now. I'll post more in the next couple days.
Bitch Gave Her 2 Weeks ... not me...
Everything is great! Now... but in the past couple weeks, it was very very bad.
Our Air Conditioning went out on Sunday night. We left a note for the maintenance people, and they did not get back to us. When we got home Monday afternoon, Moses was about dead with heat. We opened the windows, turned off all the appliances and I even called the answering service. The lady said it was a safety hazard to work on the units at night and we'd have to wait until the next day to ask the office.
We almost died that night. The wind was blowing the wrong way, and not through our apartment. I had a fan on in the bedroom, no blankets, and Moses got many pets with an ice pack that night. We could not sleep in the heat trapped in the room. By morning, it was an acceptable temperature to sleep, but I had to go to work.
Raffy stayed home and called the managers. They told us we had 7 people in front of us to get their A/C fixed. I told him to look into purchasing a standalone unit. And that is how the dear Penguino came into our lives! It's a portable A/C unit that stands about waist-high, weighs about 72 lbs and can cool about 500 square feet. It was a bit pricey, but I can't take the chance that with 5 months of summer ahead that our A/C won't go out again. Raffy set it up and Moses sat right in front of it, with a chilly blast of air flowing through his fur. Then the maintenance men showed up and fixed the A/C.
The problem? The fan in the outside unit to our apartment had rusted and needed some lubricant. I was pretty angry that they had to maintenance so many other units that it took 2 days to get to us for something that you would think they would do on a regular basis. Well, now we have Penguino, so at least one room can be livable.
I couldn't turn on the computer to post, and I've been catching up sleep the last couple days, so there is my excuse for lack of posts.
Anyhow, Raffy and I found 2 excellent new possible apartments. Mesa Ridge, and Sugar Hill. Mesa Ridge is halfway between our work and college, and it's cute! They have lovely well-kept grounds, and hardwood floors - perfect for my allergy problem. Sugar Hill is closer to work, and right behind a Sun Harvest. I could walk around to the grocery store, and it's a nice quiet place. The grounds are very well kept, and we're going this Saturday to talk to them about seeing a place and rent information.
It's all good. And Rach, you will know what the title of this post means.
Later!
Our Air Conditioning went out on Sunday night. We left a note for the maintenance people, and they did not get back to us. When we got home Monday afternoon, Moses was about dead with heat. We opened the windows, turned off all the appliances and I even called the answering service. The lady said it was a safety hazard to work on the units at night and we'd have to wait until the next day to ask the office.
We almost died that night. The wind was blowing the wrong way, and not through our apartment. I had a fan on in the bedroom, no blankets, and Moses got many pets with an ice pack that night. We could not sleep in the heat trapped in the room. By morning, it was an acceptable temperature to sleep, but I had to go to work.
Raffy stayed home and called the managers. They told us we had 7 people in front of us to get their A/C fixed. I told him to look into purchasing a standalone unit. And that is how the dear Penguino came into our lives! It's a portable A/C unit that stands about waist-high, weighs about 72 lbs and can cool about 500 square feet. It was a bit pricey, but I can't take the chance that with 5 months of summer ahead that our A/C won't go out again. Raffy set it up and Moses sat right in front of it, with a chilly blast of air flowing through his fur. Then the maintenance men showed up and fixed the A/C.
The problem? The fan in the outside unit to our apartment had rusted and needed some lubricant. I was pretty angry that they had to maintenance so many other units that it took 2 days to get to us for something that you would think they would do on a regular basis. Well, now we have Penguino, so at least one room can be livable.
Survey says... No Stroke... No Diabetus!!
I don't have to check my blood sugar and check it often!
I had a lovely time with Alice and Matt at Red Robin! Thank you guys for stopping and seeing me out here. I enjoyed having a fun dinner with friends. Good luck with your wedding and please let me know if there is anything I can help you with on that!
I had my vacation last week. I wasn't feeling well - my legs hurt. My health insurance has a 800 number that has nurses on call. You tell them your symptoms, and they give you health advice. I told them about my legs hurting, and the stroke-like symptoms I had a few years ago and she told me to see a doctor in the next 4 hours.
Raffy came home and took me to the Med Clinic. It's a place where college students and people go for convenience, without the high prices. The doctor ran a bunch of tests on me, and I had an EKG on my heart. Everything came out normal - no diabetes, and my heart was fine. The next day I had a referral to have a CG scan on my brain, and that came out normal...
Meaning I never had a stroke! I'm so happy! I think it was just a vitamin deficiency from dieting without taking vitamins. I got myself some One-A-Day weight loss, and I have a doctor's appointment June 2 to talk about my symptoms. It's probably because at my weight I am at the gateway to obesity and I want to discuss with my doctor a weight loss plan. I may even look into a gym membership since I'm moving closer to the better side of town.
I rested on vacation, and I got some things packed up for the move. One of my coworkers used to live in a place that she loved, and it's only 3 miles from my work. It's called Sugar Hill apartments, and I looked at their website. She highly recommended it, and I sent them an e-message that I was interested. Their prices are affordable, and we may even get a bigger apartment.
I'm glad Mom liked her M-Day present. It was just the right timing, and I'm glad she wore it to her graduation. I'm happy she finished her goal. She may not have much trouble finding a job in Europe. One of Raffy's cousins just finished getting her Master's and she's in Spain teaching ESL. Good luck to you, Mom, and I know you can achieve your goals!
I finished my first game of Harvest Moon today. I got a good rating and my friends showed up at my house. Raffy is very interested, and started his own game. I started a new one too, and I'm probably going to go play that now until I pass out...
I love 3 day weekends!!!
Vacation at Last
Hi guys. I'm doing great. I am going on Vacation from work for 3 days next week, Wednesday through Friday. I can't wait to finally rest from my job and enjoy a great 5 day weekend!
Raffy and I have located some apartments we are interested in closer to our work places, and we're going to move at the end of November. I am looking forward to getting out of here. There was a shooting at my apartment over a drug deal the other day, in the buildings behind our apartment. A guy was buying drugs, then he ran from the dealer, and the dealer shot him in the stomach. Then he called an ambulance, and Raffy and I saw the ambulance show up. The apartments let us know what happened the next day, and we realized then it is a done deal - we're leaving!
When we first moved here, it was great. There weren't any residents that were lower class people. Even if they were, they were decent people making a living, not useless and lazy people who do drugs. We have more of those kinds of residents these days, and all the good people moved away. I mean, it wasn't a dream place to live before, but our management team could be counted on. Our manager is gone due to health problems, and a new lady is in charge.
Hey Alice, are you in Atlanta? I was expecting you to stop by on your way. Please let me know if you would like to stay again. I understand if my stories make you want to go to a motel though! :D It's not like that every day, and we did enjoy having you here. The families across the way from us have moved out now, so we're having a breather from the pot smoking. Or if you decide for a motel, I would like to spend some time with you when you come through town, unless you're already in Atlanta! :D
I'm going to go through my apartment and get rid of alot of junk. That way when we move, there won't be so much stuff to transport! I'm thinking about donating my things to a battered women's shelter downtown. That way I know my things are going to a good cause!
I'll keep updating. Sometimes it is hard to find time to write, but things are slowing down more for me. Hope everyone is doing great!
Happy Birthday Rach!
Lately I've had some interesting things going on. They had a Pine Car Derby at work - my boss's kid is in the boy scouts. They set up a race track at work, and all the guys were busy building cars. I overheard them talking about a premade kit you could buy at Hobby Lobby, so I went home, bought one, and made a car that night.
I painted it black, and it came with flame stickers. I painted a Cobra on the front, and on the sides "Cobra" over the flames. I brought Cobra car to work, and it beat everyone's! I placed 2nd out of 20 cars, and narrowly took 1st place by 1 race, the other car beat mine by 1/2 inch.
All the men were angry. One guy even took the day off to 'craft' the fastest car, and his didn't even make it to the finals. One of our managers brought in a sand blaster and was making his car the day before the race. It was slow! :D I had so much fun, and they were so mad at me!
I swear, so much around that place is about what hangs between your legs. I'm glad I made them eat their defeat, and they know better than to underestimate me.
Raffy and I went out for Sushi with Cobra Car to celebrate with hot sake and an LIR roll. I had a great week!
Present
Yeah, I'm here. Present!
My kindergarten teacher always had us say "Present!" instead of "Here" for some reason. I would always get excited and thing I was going to get a gift, because I didn't know the multiple meanings of that word.
And that is why I am a bitter person to this day! :D J/K
Raffy and I are looking for a new place to live. This new place is starting to turn to the ways of my previous apartment. We're looking into our options, and we're going to move to a better side of town. I have some friends I'm inquiring with to see where they live, how it is, and whether it would accommodate our needs. I hate moving! I wish the new neighbors would just leave, and take their smoke and weed with them!
They always stare at us when we leave, and they are there when we get back from home. Watching. Doing Nothing. You can tell when someone doesn't have a conventional job. And when 2 families are living in a one bedroom apartment, you know that isn't a good thing to be around.
Other than that I have been longing to finish my paintings. I want to take some time off work so I can just paint. Paint and relax.
I read your comment, Rach, about the canceled trip to NY. I will use my time off then, since I don't have to save it for anything. Raffy and I want to go on a vacation when he graduates, to celebrate and to give him time off. So if that's next year, I have to use it or lose it!
I will use it well!
Life as a Slug
Yup, that's me. I'm just a slug. I go to work I come home I go to work I come home I go to work I come home. Just so you know you haven't missed much.
I haven't talked to Rach about going to New York lately. I am assuming that it may be next year, pending when she gets published and the publisher contacts her. I'm going to keep my vacation stored up, so if something suddenly happens, I can go.
Alice, the first three months are the hardest. But once I saw Raffy again, and we began to visit each other regularly, I became accustomed to and even enjoyed my long distance relationship. When you get sad, just call him and leave a message if he doesn't answer! Go with a friend and do something you enjoy, or treat yourself to something you love. Before you know it, it will be over and you'll be with him and very happy. And when you get back together, you realize how much you miss him and why he is the perfect fit in your life. I love that feeling!
Also, I am extending an invitation to revisit the Rafaleah Inn in early May. Please email me and let me know so I can take the next day off. That worked out so well last time!
Raffy is so close to finishing this semester. We have the summer planned, and he has some classes picked out for the fall. Hopefully if they have all the classes he needs next spring, he'll graduate! I'm so proud of his accomplishments and I am glad we see the light at the end of the tunnel after so many years.
Until next week.
This Will Be Short
It's been very hard these days, being overworked, under staffed, and sitting in one spot all day. I had a great weekend with my friend. I got with her and helped her with her resume, and she is going to look for new opportunities. I hope she has better luck with her new job, loves it and is very happy.
I just had a wonderful hot shower. Our water was shut off yesterday due to an emergency. I had to wash my hair in the sink this morning! Thank goodness it is short now!
I need to go rest. I had a bad work day and I just wanted to check in on my internet pulse.
When There's Too Much to Report!
Welcome back Friends. :) I had a week of such unimaginable amount of events, some pleasant, some horrifying, that I did not get a chance to blog.
Phantom of the Opera
Let me begin with last Sunday. I was getting ready that weekend for the arrival of Alice and Matt, and Rafaleah was cleaning the house like mad! We were shopping for things we needed (the airbed) and excited. Last Sunday we went to see Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theater!
It was a beautiful theater, and the performances were wonderful! I saw the show back in February 2000, with Abby and her dad at Gammage. I have to admit, I liked the Gammage performances better, but I guess it was because that was my first time seeing it. The Majestic was pretty, and reminded me somewhat of the Orpheum, except it was stacked more like the Herberger with the rows. The seats were small! Americans have gotten much fatter than when the theater was originally built, so you had to cuddle up to the thighs and elbows of the people next to you.
Raffy was enjoying the show, and the music. He was chillin on the aisle seat, and I took the crowd, but at least I could cuddle up to him and not have to sit too close to the lady on my left. We paid for Orchestra level seats, and they were on the center stage section to the right of the stage. Honestly, it was a great place to sit once, but mostly older people go there because they don't have to sit high and brave the stairs. Thus there were many old people farting throughout the show, and all you could do was sit through it.
Plus, they always stage the show so that you can see it from above. I will probably steer away from Orchestra seating until I am an old person partaking of brocollis and going to plays and farting.
My New Coif
Here is a picture that Raffy took of me after the show. I wanted to show off my new look online:
Also, here is the Munch Man version, I took the next day. This is going on my profile!
Moses and the Bed
After suffering two stressful workdays on Monday and Tuesday, I was preparing my home for the arrival of Alice and Matt. I was SUPER EXCITED to see them, meet the man of Rachael's dreams, and to give them a resting place because I know what that drive is like!
Raffy and I came home, and I was listening to some election coverage (I early voted the week before! :D) but I could not go to the caucus because my guests were coming. I started putting together the bed, because the motor is very loud, and I didn't want to disturb the neighbors after 10:00pm.
I filled the bed with air in my living room, and I went to slide it in my bedroom so that I could relax with some dinner while I was waiting. Moses was in the way, and I thought he would go in the closet, but he went towards the bed. Raffy usually has a small plastic box near our bed now, since Moses is old and he cannot jump onto the bed without help. He was trying to go to the box, and get on the bed to avoid the air mattress.
But we moved the box to the closet or the air mattress would not fit easily into the space. So he was trapped. And the air mattress came down on him and squished him.
This is the face he made after he crawled out from under the bed:
:o
Traumatized! He was jittery all night after that, and after we went to bed, he woke me up around 3:00 am and wanted me to keep him company. I took care of him and got the best sleep I could, but I tried to keep him away from the guests so they could get a good sleep for their trip!
Rachael and Matt
After a couple hours, I moved the bed back to the living room, and Raffy and I put the sheets on it. Moses hid in the corner, and we put him in the bedroom with Raffy, so I could put a little more air in the mattress. It was about 9:30 pm, so I thought I would get away with it without disturbing the neighbors.
I filled the air for a few minutes, and once I turned off the machine, I heard a light tap on the door. I checked the peek hole, and I thought it was the lady downstairs, but I saw a flash of red hair, and 2 people, and I knew it was Rachael and Matt!!
Big Hugs! It was great. We talked for a couple hours, and they went to bed. They are excited and happy together, and now that I have had time to meet Matt, I can tell from the way they are together, that they have the right chemistry to be very, very happy together. It is rare to see that level of compatability, but they have it. It reminds me of me and Raffy! They communicate well, and are in tune with each other, and supportive and I am very, very happy for both of them.
You guys remember, I will help you with whatever you would like me to do for your wedding!
After a good night's sleep, and showers, Matt showed us his neato light saber he got as a going away present! It was fun to swing it around. I'll have to get one of those someday! Then we went out for breakfast at Village Inn, and Rachael and I had pie! Yum! :D
Then we came back to play the Wii, and Raffy and I really enjoyed playing Wii Play with them. But before we could play, my remote got reset, and it took almost an hour to remember how to reprogram it. My booklet was in the closet, but not where I was looking! Raffy found it and I got the remote to work so we could play, but it was a good chance for Rachael and Matt to check their email and forums.
We played until 1:00, then as things wound down, they needed to go to Houston to meet Rachael's grandma. We hugged, and promised to see them again in Atlanta. We do want to go to that wedding in Pheonix! :D Raffy and I had a blast, and again, we are happy we have another couple to hang out with that is fun, even though they live in another state!
Bad Karma
After they left, I wanted to go shopping for some meat. We went to Sun Harvest, and as I parked, a cart came crashing down onto my car. The parking lot is not level, and Raffy saw an old lady looking scared.
I got out of the car, and I saw a lady in the car next to us. She heard it hit, but she thought I hit the car in front of me. I smiled and I said, "At least the cart didn't hit your car!" There was a pretty big couple of dents, but because I have a dark car, it won't really be noticed.
We went to the meat counter, and the old lady was there, looking nervous. Raffy whispered to me that was the lady, and I said to him, "Don't worry about it, sweetie. It is just a little dent, and I am not concerned about it."
The old lady seemed to feel better, and started talking about how she loves meat with a bone in it to me as they wrapped up my purchase. I bet she was on a fixed income, and even if it was or wasn't really her fault, elderly people tend to get paranoid that something like that will be blamed on them and they will have to pay money they don't have.
We came home, and watched the finale of Project Runway. Very satisfying, with our favorite designer Christian winning! We had a delicious beef dinner with potatoes, and I thought my bad karma was done.
But it wasn't. I came in to work again, and I cannot repeat what happened there because I have taken a vow not to blog about my work. All I can say is that I am very, very sad what happened on Thursday, and if you want to know, you can call me, but I am not going to compromise my workplace vow on my blog.
I am still in shock, but I went out with Raffy to get some coffee last night, and I am going to do my best!
The Aftermath and The Big Juicy
Friday was a heavy day at work, and I was coping the best I could after the events of Thursday. I came home very mind numbed, after coffee with Raffy, and I went to bed as early as I could. I had a pretty good night's sleep, and I ran my errands this morning.
I paid some bills online, and we went to a celebratory party for an accomplishment that Raffy's team has made. They were very happy, and I like being around Raffy's coworkers. They are all very nice people, and I am glad he is on a team that cares, and that has such a great dynamic together. We had delicious food, and we celebrated with cake, and stories of Raffy, also known among his coworkers as "The Big Juicy."
Apparently, at a previous lunch to celebrate a rollout of a program, Raffy's team went to a burger joint, known as the "Home of the Big Juicy." The Big Juicy is their signature burger. Well, Raffy saw a lady eating a small plate with fully-loaded nachos. He ordered a nachos, and a burger. It is one of those places that call your name, and you pick up the food, and go back to your table.
Raffy ordered last, -but- they called his name first, and Raffy came back to the table with a HUGE platter of fully loaded nachos, that could have fed the whole table. Raffy started tearing up those nachos, and after a few minutes, they called him for his burger. After he ate the nachos and the burger, a man came up and started talking to him.
It was really Raffy's uncle, but his coworkers thought it was Mr. Big Juicy congratulating him on finishing the nacho platter and a Big Juicy burger. It was then, my Raffy was dubbed, "The Big Juicy." It fits!
It reminded me of the episode of Seinfeld where George was trying to get a cool nickname from his coworkers, "T-Bone" but they named him "Ko-Ko."
So now I am done with my longest post ever. I hope next week is better with my karma, and I get through this tough part.
Ciao!
Traumatized! He was jittery all night after that, and after we went to bed, he woke me up around 3:00 am and wanted me to keep him company. I took care of him and got the best sleep I could, but I tried to keep him away from the guests so they could get a good sleep for their trip!
Rachael and Matt
After a couple hours, I moved the bed back to the living room, and Raffy and I put the sheets on it. Moses hid in the corner, and we put him in the bedroom with Raffy, so I could put a little more air in the mattress. It was about 9:30 pm, so I thought I would get away with it without disturbing the neighbors.
I filled the air for a few minutes, and once I turned off the machine, I heard a light tap on the door. I checked the peek hole, and I thought it was the lady downstairs, but I saw a flash of red hair, and 2 people, and I knew it was Rachael and Matt!!
Big Hugs! It was great. We talked for a couple hours, and they went to bed. They are excited and happy together, and now that I have had time to meet Matt, I can tell from the way they are together, that they have the right chemistry to be very, very happy together. It is rare to see that level of compatability, but they have it. It reminds me of me and Raffy! They communicate well, and are in tune with each other, and supportive and I am very, very happy for both of them.
You guys remember, I will help you with whatever you would like me to do for your wedding!
After a good night's sleep, and showers, Matt showed us his neato light saber he got as a going away present! It was fun to swing it around. I'll have to get one of those someday! Then we went out for breakfast at Village Inn, and Rachael and I had pie! Yum! :D
Then we came back to play the Wii, and Raffy and I really enjoyed playing Wii Play with them. But before we could play, my remote got reset, and it took almost an hour to remember how to reprogram it. My booklet was in the closet, but not where I was looking! Raffy found it and I got the remote to work so we could play, but it was a good chance for Rachael and Matt to check their email and forums.
We played until 1:00, then as things wound down, they needed to go to Houston to meet Rachael's grandma. We hugged, and promised to see them again in Atlanta. We do want to go to that wedding in Pheonix! :D Raffy and I had a blast, and again, we are happy we have another couple to hang out with that is fun, even though they live in another state!
Bad Karma
After they left, I wanted to go shopping for some meat. We went to Sun Harvest, and as I parked, a cart came crashing down onto my car. The parking lot is not level, and Raffy saw an old lady looking scared.
I got out of the car, and I saw a lady in the car next to us. She heard it hit, but she thought I hit the car in front of me. I smiled and I said, "At least the cart didn't hit your car!" There was a pretty big couple of dents, but because I have a dark car, it won't really be noticed.
We went to the meat counter, and the old lady was there, looking nervous. Raffy whispered to me that was the lady, and I said to him, "Don't worry about it, sweetie. It is just a little dent, and I am not concerned about it."
The old lady seemed to feel better, and started talking about how she loves meat with a bone in it to me as they wrapped up my purchase. I bet she was on a fixed income, and even if it was or wasn't really her fault, elderly people tend to get paranoid that something like that will be blamed on them and they will have to pay money they don't have.
We came home, and watched the finale of Project Runway. Very satisfying, with our favorite designer Christian winning! We had a delicious beef dinner with potatoes, and I thought my bad karma was done.
But it wasn't. I came in to work again, and I cannot repeat what happened there because I have taken a vow not to blog about my work. All I can say is that I am very, very sad what happened on Thursday, and if you want to know, you can call me, but I am not going to compromise my workplace vow on my blog.
I am still in shock, but I went out with Raffy to get some coffee last night, and I am going to do my best!
The Aftermath and The Big Juicy
Friday was a heavy day at work, and I was coping the best I could after the events of Thursday. I came home very mind numbed, after coffee with Raffy, and I went to bed as early as I could. I had a pretty good night's sleep, and I ran my errands this morning.
I paid some bills online, and we went to a celebratory party for an accomplishment that Raffy's team has made. They were very happy, and I like being around Raffy's coworkers. They are all very nice people, and I am glad he is on a team that cares, and that has such a great dynamic together. We had delicious food, and we celebrated with cake, and stories of Raffy, also known among his coworkers as "The Big Juicy."
Apparently, at a previous lunch to celebrate a rollout of a program, Raffy's team went to a burger joint, known as the "Home of the Big Juicy." The Big Juicy is their signature burger. Well, Raffy saw a lady eating a small plate with fully-loaded nachos. He ordered a nachos, and a burger. It is one of those places that call your name, and you pick up the food, and go back to your table.
Raffy ordered last, -but- they called his name first, and Raffy came back to the table with a HUGE platter of fully loaded nachos, that could have fed the whole table. Raffy started tearing up those nachos, and after a few minutes, they called him for his burger. After he ate the nachos and the burger, a man came up and started talking to him.
It was really Raffy's uncle, but his coworkers thought it was Mr. Big Juicy congratulating him on finishing the nacho platter and a Big Juicy burger. It was then, my Raffy was dubbed, "The Big Juicy." It fits!
It reminded me of the episode of Seinfeld where George was trying to get a cool nickname from his coworkers, "T-Bone" but they named him "Ko-Ko."
So now I am done with my longest post ever. I hope next week is better with my karma, and I get through this tough part.
Ciao!
Hi, glad everyone enjoyed seeing little Moses. He's chomping away at his leftovers right now.
I had a heck of a week at work! They held an event on Friday, and I ended up doing alot of heavy lifting and running around. I'm still tired!
But today was my Day! I went to a hair salon at the mall and cut all my hair off. Not quite how I had it before, it is about 3 inches long so I can curl my hair and look more feminine. But I didn't stop there. I had my hair lightened a couple shades so my red highlights could stand out. Then I drove to Ulta - yes ULTA!!- over across town and did some shopping.
I got myself some decent beauty products that I could not find anywhere over here. I bought an ionic hair dryer, a cute purse mirror, a Bare Minerals starter pack, a cute headband for my new hair, and a new facial care product line to take care of my damaged, oily and sun damaged skin.
That stuff works great. It's this line called Borba. I used it twice today and already most of the redness and oil is drastically reduced. It is made from pomegranate, cotton fibers, soy, and the lady told me they tested their product on sensitive skin. I have no pain from using it, and together with the Bare Minerals, my skin is protected and beautiful.
But we'll see how those work out. So far so good!
Yeah, it cost. Everything costs. I am happy I did this so I can look good again. I'm not going to let myself go anymore. I don't have to be dowdy because I'm married. Raffy loved it! He keeps touching my hair and telling me I'm pretty. I let him know at the time how much I was spending, and he was fine with it as long as I was.
Next weekend we have tickets to go see Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theater. It's like the Orpheum of San Antonio. It's going to be great! We got Orchestra level seats, center stage and halfway from the front and back rows. Perfect! I can't wait!
Alice, I got your email, and I sent you a reply! Good luck with your move, I am very happy for you and I can't wait to see you again!
Update on Moses
I talked to Esther the other day, and she wanted an update on our Moses. I still need to send you the shipping money, by the way, Esther.
Moses has lost 6 lbs on the Rafaleah Diet! We fed him less, gave him treats in the morning and at night, and a snack. He weighs 12 pounds now, and he's literally half the cat he was when he moved here! But he is healthy, and happy, purry and soft.
We took him to the vet last Friday because he kept scratching his ears. It turns out he had a bacterial infection in his ear, and they gave us ear drops to put in his ear. The catch is they need to be refrigerated. OOOhh! He HATES that! I have to put 8-10 drops per ear twice a day, and he always puts his ears back, sighs and tries to run.
I want to take a picture of him and put it up so you can all see the new, slender Moses! He did it and so can you! :)
Organizational Whore
Yeah, that's me!
I went on one of my fits of clean, and I put up some shelves in my dining room. I put extra food, tupperware, crock pots, and my glass pitchers on it. It is awesome! Now I have room in my kitchen to cook, and a place for everything.
When I do get a house, you can bet there will be shelves in every room, to keep things up where you can see them, and use them. I love it!
I took down the tree too. I forgot to take a picture for the blog! :> Rats! I will do that next year. It wasn't much different than last year's tree.
So, I heard Super Bowl is coming to AZ in 2 weeks. Is dad still going to rent out the house for out of towners? May be kinda hard with the menagerie of animals over there. Well, good luck with the traffic! I stay away from downtown San Antonio when the Spurs have their playoffs. It's a mess!
Things here are good and quiet. I'm still on a quest to complete my spring cleaning without taking any time off work. I did a good job this weekend, and I may just be able to finish before spring. I can say, that I do love that laptop! I can get Raffy to the other room, so I can clean and organize without us bothering each other! I love it!
Plus Raffy and I have been playing our online game together. That's alot of fun when you can team up, and Raffy's a much higher level than I am.
Well, Keep it Real you all! See you next week!
Goodbye Holidays, Hello Sunshine!
I hate the holidays now. Rafaleah has made a decision. Until we have kids, we're not going to do the whole Christmas present thing. This year, we just had a blast, no worries, no gifts. I put our tree up, because I like that tradition, and we bought a new ornament, but that was it.
Yeah, I saw the petite tree at the R- Clan's house. You know, I was the one who put the tree up every year, whether you all noticed or not, since I was about 14. I used to brave the rooftop and put outdoor lights, sometimes nearly slipping to my death over the massive garage! It was worth it to spend my final Christmases at home. I'm not surprised, because you all either can't go up to the attic, or shouldn't.
So we had a good Christmas. I didn't go to see anyone over here. I sent Raffy to go see his family, because I didn't feel like going anywhere. I told him they were welcome to come to our place if they wanted, but I was tired, and I wanted a day in my home with peace and quiet. And he went! :) I stayed home, and played my online game all day. I accomplished alot! And I spent much time with Moses, and ate my Christmas orange and candy. I was so tired, I didn't feel like blogging about it.
Then New Years came, and I decided I would make eggrolls for Raffy. We used a pot filled with some peanut oil, and I made them on the stove. I spent New Years Day relaxing, and we bought a wedding present for Raf's friend Phillip. He married his sweetheart he met when he worked at SeaWorld back in '01 last Saturday.
The day after New Years', I went to work feeling fine, but by 2:00 I was about to pass out! I was very, very ill, and Raffy had to come get me and drive me home. I stayed home the next day, and could only choke down water and Ramen until I got better. I was fit and ready for Phillip's wedding last weekend.
Never wear red to a Catholic wedding. I bought a beautiful red dress from Ross to wear, because the only thing I had that fit me was a black and white dress. I didn't want to wear black to a wedding. I wanted to be joyous, and happy looking. Well, we get there and half the women are wearing some form of black, and giving me the "eye." Even the priest gave me a look. I wanted to say, "Hey! I'm a guest, not Satan!" It didn't help that I was wearing ruby jewlery!
Raffy and I went home for the 2 hours between the ceremony and the reception. We relaxed, and then we went to the Radisson hotel where the reception was. Keep in mind, this is the same place I had the asthma attack at a couple weeks ago. I loaded up on allergy meds, and I brought my Epi-pen. But when we got there, they had thrown away all the plants that died, and only a few were scattered around. Because I had my medicine, I was fine!
We met with many of Raffy's school friends, the "gang." They are all very nice and funny people, just like Raffy. We all hung out, laughing, joking and had a great time. There was a couple there from Colorado, Joe and Katie. They kept mentioning that they were going to be in town until Tuesday, and wanted to hang out. I told Raffy to give them our number, and tell them to call us to go out on Monday.
The wedding was pretty, and the bride and groom were very cute together. I want to give a shout out to Phillip and his lovely bride Suzie. I hope you both have a long and happy life together, and we'll see you for Wii day! BYOC! :D
Anyway, we went out with Joe and Katie to Dave & Busters last Monday. We had a GREAT time! I wish we had more friends like them. Joe is very intelligent and Katie is a fun person! Raffy and I were glad to see them, and they are coming back next July because another couple in the "gang" is getting married. I can't wait, because they are fun! We had dinner, played games, and hung out.
So that's why I haven't blogged. I was out having fun. With real people! :D There is hope for me!
Tonight we bought a laptop for Raffy to take to college. (He spells it Kollig.) I picked it out! We went to Office Max and got a great deal on a Toshiba 17" notebook. I just finished the rebate papers, and we're doing great financially. We are on the upswing. I know it was a bummer not getting a present from me, but it really helped us to get our goals accomplished, so thank you for not getting a present! :) You can do the same to me, because I know how hard it is to survive. I know you all love me, and it's all good!
Happy Birthday Sara! Hope all is well, and you are happy and healthy and doing great!
Love, Leah and Raffy!
